Architect David Moore turned to Gravity Switch for help combining interactive web technology with home design concepts. He wanted a site that would allow consumers to design a new home and order sound, ready-to-build blueprints at a fraction of the cost (and effort) available through traditional methods.
It quickly became apparent that we were not just designing a new website, but inventing an entirely new process for designing homes. Working jointly with Moore and his partner, Sara Warner-Phillips - who provided the site layout and graphic components - Gravity Switch engineered the rich media application for the "Design Your Own House" tool.
Highlights:

Devising a patented design tool that "knows" how to draw a house based on the literally millions of possible design combinations.

Making the tool "intelligent" enough to prohibit users from combining features that are structurally unsound or impossible to build.

Enabling users to dynamically see changes to the exterior, first and second floor plans based on the options they select.

Creating an order process that considers the millions of possible permutations, while allowing our client to receive these complex orders in an easy to use way.

Making a version of the tool available that does not require browser plug-ins for universal access.
OriginalHome.com has registered nearly 2500 users since going live in November 2000 - all with no advertising, public relations or search engine optimization & positioning.
