Gravity Switch used over 32% less energy in January 2006 than in January 2005 - here's how we're cutting back:
- We replaced our CRT monitors with LCD monitors - LCD monitors cost $21 less a month to run and use nearly 13% less energy.
- Over half of our computer workstations use laptop instead of desktop computers - laptop computers use 9 - 13% less energy than desktop computers.
- We set all computer workstations to shut down after office hours each night.
- Our heating/cooling system is controlled by a programmable, digital thermostat - these thermostats can lower energy bills by 33% and ensure you use significantly less energy.
- We've put timers on "accessory appliances" that may get left on over night, i.e. our water fountain, fans, etc.
- We reuse and recycle our office paper, as well as recycling our cardboard, plastic, and cans.
- We donate unwanted office items instead of throwing them away.
