About the contest

The goal of the 2010 Western Mass Business Makeover was to serve as a fun and different way to help boost the local economy. Our prize sponsors were all local business who provide services that would be useful to any size business, including small businesses and small non-profits. Each sponsor donated one or more prizes like logo design, professional photography, radio advertising, and the like.

The finalists were also all local businesses (along the I-91 corridor from Souther VT to the Hartford area).

  • Contestant entry period has past and thank you to all who entered.
  • Voting happened from early December through Friday, Dec. 17, 2010.
  • Winners were announced during the awards event at the Delaney House in Holyoke, MA on 1/11/11.

Where did this idea come from?

Dave DelVecchio of IBS (Innovative Business Systems, Inc.) originally brought the idea to Jason Mark of Gravity Switch in the fall of 2009.  This spring, after kicking around the idea with a few people we decided to run with it.

The future of the contest

In 2010, western mass based web development firm, Gravity Switch, spearheaded the running of this contest. We were fortunate to have worked with so many great sponsors and entrants, resulting in a very successful first go!

But alas, running contests isn't really our main gig. It's fun and exciting, but our core work is to help clients with web, mobile and iPad work. In light of that, our hope has been to find another entity who is well-positioned to run the contest (and who has the available time resources that such an endeavor requires). If we can't find that "entity", then, while Gravity Switch won't be running a 2011 contest, we may consider it again in 2012.
