WEBSITE REDESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences

With a mission to attract the most promising students to shape them into visionary scholars, innovative educators, and creative leaders to provide global leadership and innovation in graduate education, Harvard Keith C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts And Sciences needed help to redesign the site in a way that wasn’t frilly and full of excess nonsense but was both transactional and delightful.

We faced two major challenges on this project: The first, balancing the well-established Harvard brand standards with a revitalized and modern approach to create an updated website experience that better reflects what it’s like to attend the Harvard GSAS today – and second, presenting many different types of content and information, together, in a cohesive and clear way curated for each of the top user groups that visit the website.

We knew, going into the project, that we needed to do something completely different with navigation; during our discovery phase, nearly everyone we spoke with expressed some level of frustration with the existing navigation and the inability to find things where they expected them to be. We employed a number of tactics, starting with a thorough site audit, to determine both site architecture and navigation options to create the best, most intuitive, pathways through the site.

The jewel in our crown is the Mega Menu with exposed navigation options – we used this treatment to help site visitors understand the relationships between types of information as well as indicate to them the depth of the site.

WEBSITE REDESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Solitary Watch

When Solitary Watch came to us, they were in the midst of a messy breakup with their current development partner; their site was in (quite frankly) dire straits. Their install of WordPress had so many outdated plugins that Google had stopped indexing them so even though they are 1 of 2 organizations who write exclusively about solitary confinement in US prisons, they did not appear in Google search results for that term.

They desperately needed a revamp of their WordPress install and were hopeful that they could also get an updated site design that would help make them look more trustworthy, more professional, and more like serious reporters and less like a hobby-ists blog.

Together, we discussed the various options (including pros/cons of each approach) and ultimately decided the best path forward was to update their current install of WordPress eliminating the need to migrate any content or rebuild any integrations.

We used the same approach we’ve laid out for your project to make their project a success: we mocked up new designs, re-themed their current site, reviewed their plugins (and made recommendations for anything new), cleaned up the code from a malicious hacking incident, and implemented some SEO improvements.

Shortly before launch, the Solitary Watch team decided they no longer felt that their color palette best reflected their work and asked us to come up with 2-3 color options that better resonated with them (and their audiences.) We did and if you visit the live site, you’ll see the strong but subdued green they fell in love with.

INGOLLOW

Picture your perfect Hawaiian vacation: you’d eat at all of the best local restaurants, see the best (uncrowded) sites, stay in the most amazing hotel, and generally get the most out of your trip with the least amount of hassle. Enter reality: you’ve been scouring the internet (from Trip Advisor down to Yelp and back through articles, blog posts, and even your FB feed). Your list of “must do’s” has a shadow of doubt hovering over it. Are these really the best options? Are these really the best prices?

Meet Ingollow: a beautiful, dynamic app that thoughtfully curates all things Hawaii. Built on user ratings, reviews, and feedback plus insider hints and tips from local businesses, there is no easier way to enjoy your Hawaiian vacation. We turned the Ingollow team’s deep love for Hawaii into a visually striking, easy to use application.

Our role was to guide usability and workflow, create a look and feel, refine the logo concept, and produce assets for the developers to implement.
